Bianca Patterson graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education (magna cum laude) from California State University, Sacramento, where she studied clarinet and bass clarinet performance with Sandra McPherson and Deborah Pittman. She is the recipient of the Sacramento Saturday Club Scholarship, the Nicholas Angiulo Scholarship for Music Education, and the Ron A. Holloway Scholarship for woodwind performance, to name a few. She also holds her A.A. in Traditional Music (clarinet performance, 2012), and is finishing a secondary A.A. in Foreign Language Studies, with certificates in German, Italian, and Spanish.

Her performance experience is vast, ranging from local pit orchestras for musical theatre, to the symphony orchestra and wind ensembles. She even time spent serving with the 191st Army Band.

In 2015, Bianca traveled to Italy to attend the InterHarmony Music Festival, where she performed with her trio ClariSonix, as a member of the festival orchestra, and as a bass clarinet soloist. In 2016, she traveled to the Dominican Republic where she taught music to children at a local orphanage and gave free lessons to other members of the community.

She taught for 7 wonderful years in the San Juan Unified School District, where she directed band and choir at three elementary schools. In 2018, she was the recipient of an Artie award for her contributions to music and arts education in the schools. From 2018-2019, she taught at Tamraloo Music Studios in Lincoln. Presently, Bianca is in her third year working with CLARA to teach music in the Sacramento City Unified School District, and is in her 15th year teaching private lessons to students of all ages on piano, clarinet, flute and saxophone and runs her studio full-time in Sacramento.

Outside of teaching, Bianca is serving her fifth term on the board of the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association, where she is continuing her work as the chair of the Middle School Music Lesson Scholarship program and is working to make music and music education equitable and accessible to the community. Bianca is in her 20th year with the Rancho Cordova River City Concert Band, where she has played French horn, bass clarinet, and currently is the principal clarinet, and served 5 years as vice president on the board of directors. She is a member of the Association of Concert Bands, and serves as the current membership chair for the state of California. Bianca is an alumni member of the Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity, Alpha Delta chapter, and a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

In her spare time, she enjoys collecting and reading books, collecting and drinking tea (and lots of coffee!), and going to farmer’s markets. Additionally, Bianca is working towards building new music opportunities in Sacramento for adult musicians, and hopes to one day have a group of her own to take to Carnegie Hall.
